Creating a garden room...

How do you create that dream outdoor living space when you're not a keen gardener or feel like you don't know your dandelions from your dahlias? The simple answer to this would be to consult the experts or do your own research when it comes to plants and specific gardening questions. We always consult landscape gardeners for planting and landscaping works. We are interior experts but can redesign any space to create 'living spaces' within a home.

Setting the garden up as a room is very similar to designing spaces in your home. Getting: the colours to co-ordinate, pops of colour where desired, the scale of furniture right to match the space available (see more on our up coming blog post featuring scale), the lighting needs to be selected for task lighting and decorative lighting and those all important accessories to add 'homely touches' and set the vibe of the space.

A home staging expert would be the best specialist to help you set up and design your outdoor living space. We recently worked on a 'boring, brown, dead space' according to our clients and transformed it into a 'stunning, uplifting, tranquil extension of the home'.

We achieved this through paint choices, pops of colour in planting and accessories, complementary paving in soft Indian grey sandstone, rustic touches through wooden sleepers, soft edges through furnishings and lighting. The vibe you set for any room needs to compliment the owner's lifestyle, we always ensure we complete full consultations with our clients. This ensures we are fully aware of their expectations, main uses of the space, aspirations for the space, likes and dislikes in design tastes and know their budget.

We used a trusted landscape garden company, who we have worked with on various projects, SRJ Landscapes to complete the landscape garden work. Under our design plans, they created a high end, professional finish that any home owner would be proud to show off. We were then able to work our magic to stage the garden as the room it always should have been for the homeowners to enjoy everyday.

This garden is now 'Instagram ready' and more importantly the home owners are delighted with an added room to their home. In their words: 'The garden transformation has improved our wellbeing during lockdown, we feel safer now the rotten decking has gone and we have a space we are so excited to share with our friends and family when lockdown is over.' If that's not enough to be happy with, the garden refurbishment has doubled the investment they made, in the return they would get if they chose to sell.
